Leopard Gecko Question
Hey,
I was just curious as to the vitamin and powder supplementation that is most recommened for dusting? Its been awhile since I've owned a Leo and my little brother just acquired one from the local reptile show and I want to make sure he is doing everything necessary to care for it properly and allow it to lead a healthy and long lived life.
Thanks

Re: Leopard Gecko Question
I've used RepCal for some time now, and it's worked fine for me.

Re: Leopard Gecko Question
I know this is late, but I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I would dust every other meal, (every other day) with pure D3 FREE, calcium. Leopard geckos do not get the UVB to matobolize the D3, so they can overdose on it. I use reptivite once a week. The reptivite has D3 in it, so they get a little bit. Pure, plain calcuim should be used the rest of the time. I use JurrasiCal, but just check the label and make sure it is D3 Free.
Hope all is good with the new leo! Any updates?

Re: Leopard Gecko Question
Thanks for the advice. What I got for him did lack D3 im quite sure, and if not I'll be sure to make the change. I'm only home from college some weekends so I call in to check on how his is doing. It's eating fine and his spots are starting to come out the last time I saw him (Sunday.) I'm sure he's doing fine. I stressed quite highly the importance of daily care and maintance of the leo before I let him get it, even with my parents consent (since it is in their house, I still wanted to be sure he realized this isn't something you get tired of.)
Any updates I'll let you guys know. I'll take some photos of him too this weekend if I go home to visit on Sunday.
Thanks

Re: Leopard Gecko Question
Pictures would be awesome. I love seeing other leos. Thats great that you are checking in. I think that if a kid can handle the responsibility of an animal, it really helps in their development as a person. I think a responsibility like that is quite beneficial and teaches compassion. I also think a leo is by far, one of the best reptiles to get any younger person who is just getting in to herps.
Awesome to hear the updates!!!

Re: Leopard Gecko Question
D3 is alright as long as it is not used too much. The ratio's need to be right for it to be in there. I use a D3 Calcium for all my geckos but they do not get insects very often unlike leos which is all they eat.

Re: Leopard Gecko Question
I feed pinkies to rhacs too but only to the leachies and only once ever 4-6 weeks just as a boost. Ive kept Leo's too though, not my cup of tea personally A little D3 is good for every dusting imo
