Egg Bound Chahoua
Hey everyone, at work we have 4 chahoua geckos, all breeding adults. We have one female that should have dropped her eggs a few weeks ago. She is getting huge. The eggs are growing inside her, but they are not comming out. She has successfully bred and layed before, and the babies hatched fine. But this girl is starting to worry us. She is full breeding size, Im not sure on a weight but she is a solid 10 inches when you include her tail. I have heard of egg binding happening in Iguanas, but in a chahoua gecko is new to me. Is there a way to help her pass them?

Re: Egg Bound Chahoua
Although normal gravid (pregnant) lizards may appear to have swollen abdomens and not be eating, they remain alert and active. Lizards with egg-binding rapidly become depressed, inactive, and lethargic... is she showing any of these signs? They may also raise their hind quarters and strain without producing any eggs. This is a serious condition, and could lead to death in several days.
Soaking her in warm water may help if she is indeed eggbound... but this is something that should be seen by a vet.
Also be sure that she has a private good place to lay her eggs, with moss or some egg laying box.

Too easy. Good luck with the Gecko, though.

Re: Egg Bound Chahoua
Does she have adequate nesting spots? Some females will die rather than lay there eggs in an unsuitable spot.

Re: Egg Bound Chahoua
