Meet Skippy (part 2)
Well I did it again today I took All of your advice and did a little digging on the web.
I took all of the play sand out of Skippy's house and put in just news paper. Sorry it is not 100% B/W paper about 10% color
he look like he was happy with the change.
I also ask the little gal at Petco how old the leo's are and no suprise she didn't know, But she would look into it for me.

here is the previous post:

Re: Meet Skippy (part 2)
I'd advise you to ditch the light and get a ceramic heat emitter. It's easier than switching on a black/red light at night, and you can let the night temps drop a few degrees by either raising it up a foot or two or turning it off for a couple hours when the night cycle first starts.
I'd also get a better hide, or atleast turn it so the opening is facing the back of the enclosure. It's probably pretty hard to feel secure when the gecko can see you every time you walk by or look inside the enclosure.
Cute little gecko, though. A tad thin. I'd start giving her a solid amount of wax worms to get that tail a little thicker.
edit: You might want to ditch the water dish, too. Or atleast swap it out for a smaller, more shallow version. Leopard Geckos get a lot of their moisture from the prey items they consume, so a large standing dish of water is not only a danger to the lizard itself, but next to useless.
I don't want you to think I'm trying to pick you apart here, because that's the exact opposite of what I'm trying to do. I'm sure it feels like people have been telling you you've been doing everything wrong when it comes to this gecko, but you've listened to reason, and you've made improvements, and that's what matters. I just want to see this animal get the optimal care...I know you're more than capable of providing it.

Re: Meet Skippy (part 2)
actually, leos dont much rely on prey for hydration, both of mine (and every leo I've ever had or worked with) will drink from a water bowl, much like a cat. though I do keep shallow dishes and I have to refil the water every day after it's evaporated, they certainly drink out of it

Which is exactly why I suggested swapping it out for a smaller one.

Re: Meet Skippy (part 2)
well, you said it was pointless, which it is not. they need access to water at all times. they aren't like a bearded dragon who doesnt need a water bowl at all.

Try reading a little more carefully.
