Cyrtodactylus intermedius
Thought that I would share a picture of a particularly attractive gecko species found here in Thailand, Cyrtodactylus intermedius. This was the first Cyrtodactylus sp. that I had ever seen in the wild, almost 4 years ago, but it scurried away from underneath the log so quickly, there was no chance of taking a picture. This is a perfect specimen, which is rare, since their tails are easily broken, from an area where they appeared to be very common within the Khao Soi Dao National Park, Chantaburi Province, Thailand.

Hope you enjoy the picture as much as I enjoyed seeing it,
Michael

Re: Cyrtodactylus intermedius
Oh he is precious! What is he trying to camouflage himself as with those vertical stripes?

The banded pattern fits one of the primary principals of camouflage: breaking up the outline. Although it appears to make it stand out even more, by breaking up the outline with a banded pattern, it appears less like the form of a gecko or lizard to a potential predator. If you were referring to the horizontal stripe on the side of the head, that is an 'eye stripe' that many species of reptiles have, which makes the eyes less obvious.
