Cute Feeder Colony

I am always desperate for feeder lizards. So I picked up 5 Mourning Geckos (Lepidodactylus lugubris). What is cool about these is that they are all females. Well, all Mourning Geckos are. They reproduce through parthenogenesis. So once they are mature, they just drop eggs every month or so and hatch out little clones of themselves. I believe that these are Diploid Clone A lineage. Hopefully they will do well and get me a nice colony going.

LOL, I actually learn stuff from your threads BW. At work I will be looking through spider webs saying "come out, come out, whereever you are Latrodectus Hesperus"

Sweet, parthenogenesis. We learned about those little lizards in my Bio 117 class over the summer..... very, VERY cool.

Wow, they are HUGE!!!! LOL. I actually did get to see one when it ventured out from the moss to the side of the cup. Adorable.

So does the name "mourning" geckos come from the fact that there are no males, so theoretically all the females are "mourning" the loss of their man?
