I use vermiculite for the humid hide spot for all my leos including the new babies i hatched. Lately it seems like the young ones are eating the vermiculite. their poo is kinda golden and shiny and seems to have pieces of vermiculite. Has anyone else ever had this problem? What do your leos poo look like? Thanks.

Vermiculite is great for incubating leopard gecko eggs, it is not a good idea however to use in their humidity chambers/nestboxes. Leopard geckos have a tendency to ingest sand or any other ingestable substrate (in this case vermiculite), either accidentally (when eating) or sometimes purposely. They are able to pass fine grained sands without problems 99% of the time but vermiculite can cause serious impaction problems which can lead to death. I recommend moist sphagnum moss in your humid hides, it is much safer. Hope this helps and best of luck with your leopard geckos!

Thanks Kelli and great leo pic.
Whats to stop them from eating the moss? I just switched my hatchlings to moist paper towels. The paper towels just dont hold the moisture as well and for the big humid hide I am gonna try some moss.
