Question Crested shed

Alrighty, Im having problems with my one crested gecko and his shed.

He's shedding.. alot for one. For the months than i had him his first shed was the worset and i was just leaving to go out of town. He had some on the top of his head and on his feet. I soaked him and rubbed at him but the shed barely came off his toes and it took me forever to get it off the top of his head and around his eyes..

This is the second time, that was about two weeks ago, and when i was leaving a few days after he looked like he was going to shed again I come back from vaction after a week and he has shedded but there was some left on the top of his head and his feet. I left him be for a day or two and then took him out to soak him and try to rub it off. he lookst like he's going to shed again in fact im sure of it because i can see it. I couldnt get the shed off the top of his head this time or his front toes it just wont come off, it did however come of his back feet.

Im not to sure what else to do

Help

To add to it, im having another problem. My other gecko is acting funny. I dont know why, she was normal today while I was cleaning her cage. I only use water and i left her in the cage since thats all i was doing. She acted fine, i mean ran away when i came in there like usual.. she even climbed up onto the wall. Now I found her on the wall hanging half way off with her left front leg dangling and her head back like she cant hold it up. I go to touch her she opens her mouth at me. I've never had this happen so I dont know what to do. She looks healthy, shes fat, she eats she sheds perfectly fine and she was climbing around fine too. I dunno what to do.

first, she obviously doesnt shed fine, if she is always stuck in shed

#1 reason reptiles cant shed right....

ITS NOT HUMID ENOUGH. crested geckos, come from a very humid tropical enviornment. when caring for animals, you have to simulate their natural enviornment, so they thrive. this is why i dont reccomend people use screen cages for rhacodactylus, it just drys out way too quickly, the only thing i use them for is to put them in in the sun with some cork so they can get some UVB.

you need to spray the cage. twice a day in the summer, once a day in the winter, and 3 times a day when you see it shedding.

and as for her "Behavior"... it sounds normal/fine. they often hang around in uncomfortable/odd positions. if... she becomes lethargic, stops eating, shows signs of weight loss in her hips, or dies, then its time to worry, and we can disect your husbandry issues.

It was just weird because shes never ever hung like that before. I know they can hang in odd potions but i mean.. this was really weird. Just something I've never seen her do.

As for the other, I do spray her cage. I spray it once or twice and night and several times in the day. Just because it dosent hold.. however. You say not to use screen tops.

Someone else told me that was a better way to go, and i also read that. Guess they had their facts wrong =/

I have a plexi glass top that will work. Ill do that and see if anything changes.

i didnt say dont use a screen top, i said dont use a fully screen enclosure, like a reptitarium. if you are spraying the cage 9 times a day, it should maintain almost 100% humidity and be flooded. what is your cage decoration like? get some plants in there, either fake or live, that will help hold in humidity a little bit more.

you can try a plexi glass top, which would hold humitiy in better, but if it doesnt dry out a little at some point during the day, you may have issues with mold, but deal with that when it comes, mold is a nuisance, but not a major problem, like getting stuck in shed can be.

you must be like.. doing two squirts with a hand held mister, when i say spray, i mean heavily water, not mist, the cage twice a day. that would be like a cup at a time for a 20 gallon. at LEAST.

I make sure that I spray it down heavily. I dont just give it to squirts and thats it. Also. I have plants, fake ones. I've also already delt with the mold. I have paper towel tubs for them to climb in, their water dish, this fish rock thing with fake plants sticking out of it. I've also been checking the temps and they have been staying at 72-75 in the day a little lower at night. They have a supply of crickets, not to big not to small.

So I dunno.
