Thanks to zombified for the advice. I am planning on using a UTH as my leipards primary heat source; but will also add a dome light for viewing at night, as wel as for heating the air in the tank. What wattage is apprpriate for a 20 gal. tank? I have senn red bulbs mentioned often, apparently the leos do not see this color, and it won't disturbe their nocturnal habits. I have also heard "black" lights mentioned. Are these references to ultraviolet lights, or light bulbs made from black glass? i'm also looking for any suggestions on acclimation and handling; since on of the main factors in my deciding on a leo is their temperment, and tolerance of handling.

Hey welcome to RTB!

in answer to your questions about lightning, a 40w or 60w bulb should be plenty for a 20 gallon. but if you run your AC 24/7 then you may need something stronger. as for the red and black lights geckos (and reptiles in general i believe) can't see these colors so if you need some heat in the evenings then thats the way to go. the black light i believe is a certain wavelength of UV light, don't quote me on that though.

now as for handling the leopard just wait about 2 weeks after you get it to start handling it. just handling it a little bit every day and it should calm down.
