New Viper Gecko!! I Have Questions...
Hey everyone i just bought a baby viper geckos he is about 2 1/2 to 3 months old and i dont quite know how to sex him yet but i have been told he is to young, i plan to get a mate for him in december when i go to a reptile expo in bridgeton missouri and i will breed them when they are of age, he is in a 10 gallon enclosure with a few ceramic flowerpot hides, paper towl substate, etc. he is eating a stable diet of crickets and once in a while i will put a mealworm in with him, i also started raising my own mealworms and crickets, he has been eating pinheads but he has been eating 2 or 3 a day dose this mean i should increase the size that i feed him? How old dose he need to be befor i can put it on sandsubstrate? the breeder i bought it from said instead of putting a water bowl in its enclosure to mist one side of the enclosure 2 times a day and he will drink it off the glass and he dose but would it still be better to have a water bowl in with it, i left him alon in his tank for the first few days to let him get used to every thing and i handle him a little everyday now but i am afraid of handeling him to much a day because he is so small and i dont want to hurt him or stress him out. I have done alot of research on these but there isnt that many care guides out there for these wonderful geckos, i got the basics down ( size, hab., temps, diet, lighting, etc.) as i do for every animal i get before i buy it, and i looked for a verylong time before i found a breeder, which was in mass. and i live in missouri lol it was about 38 $ overnight shipping lol, but it is worth it!! and i found a couple more breeders attending the show in december that breed them and hopefully they will have some available. I do have one more guestion, on leos when you sex them the male has the thick base of the tail and the female has the thin one right? Is that the same way with viper geckos, i was told at about 4 months look for a buldge and if it has one it is a male and if it dosnt then it is a female but i looked last night and it dose have a thick tail base but dont know about a buldge yet or now. i will post pics when i get them developed and on the net if i can find a place that will host pics lol my digi is really bad and wont really get any good pics but i have a pretty good still camera that works great, Thanks

Well, I'm no gecko expert, but congrats on the new addition. I'm sure some more qualified people will come along and post here as well.
P.S. I'm renaming your post to say Viper Gecko, those that click find your thread in the Active thread list won't be sure what it's referring to with just Viper as the title. I was expecting either a new car or a venemous snake (and was hoping for the car). You do have it in the right forum though, props for that.
Got any pics of the new addition?

if their like african fat tailed geckos as far as sexing goes, you'll see a bump thingy down there....
and as for sand, I would not use it due to the fact that it can cause impactions, although none of my herps that used to be kept on sand got any, but why risk it
