Hi everyone.I am thinking of getting 4 leopard geckos(1male,3females) to start a small breeding colony.I will be using a 40gal breeder to house the lizards. My question is about what phase of leopard geckos to get.I am not trying to make any money but I would like to produce beautiful geckos to add to my colony.I really like the albinos.Do I get an albino male and 3 regular females or do I get designer females? What color females go good with albino males?Sorry about all the questions. Thanks for any replies.

Basically, if you have an albino male bred with an albino female, you'll get all albino hatchlings. If you have an albino male bred with a normal female, you'll get normal coloured geckoes possessing the albino gene, but no showing it. This is because the gene is recessive. If you breed two normal geckoes with the gene, you'll get more or less 1/4 of the hatchlings being albino. It's all genetics, and works for height, nose size, any other form of patterning in anybody or anything.

Hope this helps!

Here's the best advice you could possibly get on the subject (in my opinnion) Get what YOU want. If you like it go for it. Who cares what everyone else likes?

Hey but one thing man if ur new to geckos buy one first and not 4 because ull see its quite a bit of work. see if u like it see if ur ready. Cause its a lot of work and do u have enough money to feed 4? cause itll cost u about 10 bucks a week. Which is a lot! So get one first ok man? And ull probabley need more then one enclusure I would get one 15 gallon or 10 for the male and the 40 for the females. Always leave the male with the females but make shure he doesnt strees them and pic on them if he does seperate them ok? and ur geckos also have to be big enough to breed so buy them and keep the girls in 40 gallon and guy in 10-15 gallon seperate for like 6 mounths or so until there big enough old enogh heavy enough I would recomend about 50 grams for the girl/s and about (minimum 40 grams for guy/s) ok? soo u have to think about it oh yah and dont use sand as a substrate use paper towel/newspaper ok and leave about one hide for each gecko + about 2 for extra with one tuperware with a hole in cover and/or side sith most vermiculite of sphagnum moss or even damp paper towels. its a lot of work and also do u have an incubator for eggs> if u dont heres a link to a plan for one.http://members.aol.com/TheWyvernsLair/incubator.html I would recomend the second one in the page first one is cheap. So I hope this helped u cause it took me a while to write oh yah and also read this care sheet. http://www.leopardgecko.com/emcare.html Well good luck with it! And think about it!

William's info was good i just saw one problem i felt i should correct. He said that it would cost 10$ to feed the geckos each week. It's more like 10$ a month. If you order your crickets from reptiledirect.com you pay about 16$ for 1000 and that lasts a nice long while. Plus, you don't need to pay shipping.
