im glad youve decided to go with rhacs, theyre definitely my favorite
hopefully this will answer some of your questions.
i currently have 2.4 cresteds and 0.2 gargoyles and no ones more proud of them then me.
as far as i know, all rhacs are temp sex dependent.
cresteds are okay with having basicly equal chances of ending up with a male or female, gargoyles however are almost ALWAYS female, its very rare for someone to get a baby raise it up to be male, so usually youll find male auriculatus to go for about 200$ any
morph because of that rareity. you can buy juviniles that have been sexed, but male aurics are not always offered either. and its usually pretty easy to sex cresteds around 8 months based on preanal pores. but gargoyles take longer to sexually mature.
its like trying to find an female island e leachie, theyre considerably more rare, so dont usually go for less then 1000 or 1500$
then there are the rough snouted prehensile tailed geckos, that only breed once a year, have live born and one is always male, and one is always female. a trio of those dont go for anything less then 10,000$ [oh god how id love to have those]
cresteds are growing in popularity right now and are relatively cheap. you can buy unsexed babies for about 50$ -150$. sexed juvies of particularly beautiful coloring can sometimes go as high as 225$ but i really cant justify spending that much.
auriculatus is getting up there in the pet trade and are also fairly easy to breed. so you usually buy them for about 75-250$ . juvies and adults you see listed will almost always be female, because males are usually held back for breeding, or are more expensive. giantgeckos.com never let male gargoyles go for less then 200$ each any age/size/color.
i suggest you get the rhacodactylus book for awesome information about keeping them. my favorite thing about these species is that they can be housed together as adults in the same viv [which is how i have them set up]
as far as places to get them, check kingsnake.com. online classifieds are good places, kingsnake is good because it has links to breeders, like giantgeckos.com and alan repashys [sp?] site. some local pet stores sell them but i wouldnt get them there. and if you get them from different places you can basicly be sure theyre of unrelated stock.
my boyfriend works at a reptile specialty store so he always takes home the "gimpy" animals. this is grammy fat fat, an old breeder, in the viv.

these were my first cresteds, abner and zelda, i raised them up from babies, got them from seperate breeders, and ended up with abner being female and zelda being male.
and one of my female gargoyles
zelda as a baby
baby abner
