babies

One of my mollies just had a baby....I'm not sure if she had more before this one and they were just eaten because my boyfriend was at school (the tank is at his house). My question is...does anyone know if fish get all small again..or at least fairly smaller right after getting birth or do they stay fairly large still? I'm just wondering because the fish is still pretty large and I'm hoping that there might be some more babies on the way that we can save.

It really depends on the type of fish, im guessing you have some type of molly, guppy, sword, or platy.

they have babies spread out over time , Ive seen them give birth to one baby one day, and 3 days later there are two more, so I dont think they all come out in quick sucession.

You may want to go to the local aquarium store and grab a nursery tank or breeder net to be sure all the fry don't get eaten up.... the female should reduce in size some. She needs to be away from the rest of the population during birth and for a while afterwards to recuperate. Otherwise the male(s) will chase her immediately.... and that would not be good.

Well when we found her the males were already all over her....does that mean that she is done or could she still be giving birth? When we found her I convinced my boyfriend to put her in the breeder (that he was keeping his beta in) and so she is in there with the baby in the bottom half. I hope there are more! I was sure that she was pregnant but he insisted on taking her out to put the beta in because we waited a while and nothing happened...and sure enough a few weeks later she starts to give birth! haha
