African Lungfish
So, my boyfriend has fulfilled his childhood dreams and, yesterday, bought himself an African lungfish. We're setting up his tank and letting it cycle for a few days (I'll post picture when the little dude comes in, though).
Any of you have any advice on lungfish? My boyfriend is an ichthyologist, so he can ramble on for hours about the animal's habitat, diet and habits in the wild, but good personal experience is always useful, too.

Re: African Lungfish
I dont really have anything constructive to add to this thread, but I just wanted to say that I think its pretty cool that he got a lungfish. Ive seen them on discovery channels and at the Zoo, but I have never heard of anyone keeping one. They are some cool critters. Good luck with everything, and make sure you post pictures ASAP!

Re: African Lungfish
I hope he has a big tank. The ones I've seen were pretty big. Very cool though.

Re: African Lungfish
we had one at a petstore that I worked at, it must of been 10+ years old.
it had been there when I was just a kid going into the store, and was there while I worked there up till the time when it closed.
Not sure where he/she went.
but it was a really awesome fish

Re: African Lungfish
To very relavent but here we go.
Don't eat it, it tastes like mud. Actually alot like catfish that lives in muddy water.

Re: African Lungfish
I had one in one of the pet shops I worked at.someone gave it to the store,he had been beat up by a tank mate.he was so cool! He loved to have his belly rubbed, and he was so spoiled that he would only eat if you hand fed him.At the time I was hand feeding him,I didn't now he could crush my hand if he wanted to (they crush live clams & eat they) Once I nursed him all back to health,I gave him so a customer. He was about 30 inches long.
