i got an oscar!!!
they are some of the coolest fish in my opinion. i was hopiing to get one around 3" or so, so i called the pet store, who has a very very very good reptile and fish department, and they said they had 2 oscard, about 4", they were fairly new, so no price. i go in today and they were more like 6" give or take, but i didnt care. i bought the bigger of the 2, only bigger by 1/2" or so. very beautiful tiger oscar. he only cost me $20!!!!!! it was a steal. i will try to get pics soon. and once he settles in, i will try to get a video of him eating some small feeder fish

Re: i got an oscar!!!
They are cool fish. $20 is a lot though, and I wouldn't feed live feeders. They carry a lot of parasites. Some people have taught them to ring a bell for their food. Trouble is they're always hungry. Is he in a tank by himself?

Re: i got an oscar!!!
i know most feeders have parasites. i wont feed goldfish. ill feed guppies or minnow, only 2 or 3 at a time, once or twice a week.and i wouldnt feed just fish. i would throw in earth worms, superworms, crickets, shrimp, and stuff like that. i would give a varied diet. he is in a tank with a few small(3" or less) plecos and a peacock eel. a 55 gal tank. plenty of filteration. a penguin 350 with 2 biowheels and an emperor 400, 2 bio wheels, together i have about 750-800 gph of filteration. and im looking to get a powerhead soon. $20 would be a lot for a small one, but is it really that much for a decent sized one?

Maybe not. I was thinking 4". It's been many years since I had one. The last one I had my hands on, was one I caught twice in the Panama Canal, two weekends in a row. I had one that spawned with a red devil once. They killed everything else in the tank. The eggs never hatched. A Jack Dempsey might make a nice tank mate.

Re: i got an oscar!!!
I love oscars... had loads in the past... but never ever fed live food... Mine were on a diet of ox heart and earth worms that was blended and frozen... Also gave them blood worm and stuff but never another fish...
The only fish i fed other fish to was my piranha, but thats a different story and also 2 totally different fish...
Hope you Oscar brings you as much joy as mine did me...

Re: i got an oscar!!!
I have had oscars in a community ( chichlet sp???) tank as long as you make sure all the fish are the same size they don't make to much trouble. Till off course a pair decides to breed then all hades breaks lose.
