Juvenile (about 2 1/2 inches) Lepomis gibbosus aka: pumpkinseed.
Net caught and a great little captive.
This guy was caught by my 9 year old daughter. She figured if she put some bait in the water close to the edge of the pond, it would attract the smaller fish in and she could scoop them up with a net to be able to catch one and bring it home without injuring it. Smart girl. Within 5 minutes, her plan worked!

Over the next few months we are going to be setting up a naturalistic pond display tank with native fish species. This guy is the first one who will go in there after he serves his time in this beautifully decorated QT tank. LOL.
