I've always liked Tetra brand filters, they do great. I've also used Marineland brand filters with the bio wheel and they do fine also.

i love emperor and penguin filters especially for goldfish because of their slime and how much they "make droppings"edited version* the biowheel balances my ph and amonia level very well

Re: whats a good filter brand 2 use?!

Best bang for the buck are the Aquaclear ones. They filter great and you can add a lot of any type of media you want. I have an Aquaclear 500 running on a 72 bowfront and it works great. They sell reuseable filter bags for them that I use and it allows me to add as much carbon, silicate remover (bad water here), and phosphate remover as I need and the sponge works great as a host to beneficial bacteria to virtually eliminate any trace of ammo in my tank. I have a pretty heavy bioload of SA cichlids in my tank it it works great. The Aquaclear 500 replaced an Emperor 400 and it blows the Emperor filter away.

Re: whats a good filter brand 2 use?!

I second AquaClear. Been using them for years and IMO for "hang on back" style filters they are the best.

They movoe a lot of water and hold a ton of whatever filter media you may need.
