Could I add something else?
I have a 29 gallon tank with a smaller pair of convicts and a pleco. Would it be possible to add a different type of cichlid? If so any suggestions?

i dont keep cichlids. my friend has a couple africans, but if u had a bigger tank, yu could get an oscar or 2. there is also a blood parrot cichlid. i personally dont like the look of them but my other friend has a pair of them. but ur best bet for ur tank would probably be asorted africans(assorted meaning different colors) in a 29 gal, depending on how many you get, they should only get to 5 inches or so. their main requirments are 80 degrees or so water. a pH of about 8.0 to 9.0(there is a chemical to make it that way but ur pleco wont survive with that high of a pH. my frined has his cichlid in noraml treated water with pH ariund 7.0 and its been alive for a few months now and is still doing great. what kind of pleco do u have? i have a common around 5 inches long and 1 clown around 2 1/2 in. or so.

Thanks guys.
spike06 I have had my convicts for quite a few months now, and added the pleco about two months ago. Convicts are American cichlids not African, so I'm not sure if I could keep new and old world together. The convicts are around 2-2 1/2 inches, and the pleco is about 3 inches.

im pretty sure you can mix all types of cichlids together as long as u give them plenty of hiding places and territories to call their own.

When it comes to fish, anything more advanced than Fantails is above my pay grade.

LOL. The convicts are very easy to care for(thankfully). I have a pink male and a black female. I'd like to add a little more color to the tank.

yes you can, but just be forewarned that as they grow the more territorial they become and the more deadly. I had a four foot tank with chiclids in it, they systematically killed each other off one by one until there were only about three left. Horrible lil nasties, pretty but horrible.

HMMM I keep going back and forth. I have heard horror stories, but I have heard of people having great results. So far I have had no problem with the pleco in there. The cons have eggs at the moment and don't seem to even mind if the pleco comes near their cave. Of course I had tried a little chinese allergy eater in there when they were smaller and they killed it.
