compatiblilty
Ok, my tank is up and running, the cichlids are doing great so far!
How long do I need to wait until I can add more fish to the tank, and what kind of fish are compatible? I'd like to actually learn something about the fish I'll be adding BEFORE I get them his time, lol (of course it helps that I KNOW I'm getting them, as well).
Thanks!

Right, I knew I'd have to wait awhile before adding more, just wasn't sure how long
I don't know what kind of cichlids they are, but I'll see if I can get my hands on a digital camera and get some pics of them.
So, how do you 'introduce' new fish into a tank?

As you just added those fish to then tank you really should wait for about 1.5 months to introduce new ones.
What new fish to add really depends on what you have now. Ive kep harlequins and giant danios with smaller cichlids. With my oscar i keep tin foil barbs, loaches, giant danios, and plecos.
The other question is are you going for a theme or whatever grabs your fancy?
The best option would be to research 5-10 species and then list back those species. We can then let you know the pros and cons of each species.

The reason for the wait is that the tank isnt established yet. It hasnt even gone through a cycle. If smash was to add more fish right now theres a good chance it would be wasted money. Once the tank is established and has gone through a cycle then adding more fish every other week or even weekly wouldnt cause the tank to go into a mini-cycle.
You should quarantine new fish for at least a month before adding them to a existing tank. Realistically this doesnt happen until you have alot of money wrapped up in fish.
The only time fish and species matter when putting them into a tank is when they are large fish. Large fish produce alot of waste ... therefore you should only add 1-2 large fish at a time.
The tank i took down had F0 A. Maisoni, F3000 yellow labs, and F3 C. Mloto. It was an african tank.

I understand the whole waiting thing...not a problem...
I'm not really interested in a theme so to speak, just whatever catches my eye that the existing fish won't kill.....
Someone said earlier that they stuck with other cichlids....from browsing local pet stores I've noticed there's all different kinds of cichlids....angelfish cichlids, oscar cichlids (which are really aggressive, right?), etc....
I guess I'll have to wait until I either get my film developed or get my hands on a dig camera so I can post the fish I already have, maybe ya'll can help me identify them, and go from there......

There are alot of fish out there alot more aggressive than oscars. All cichlids are aggressive to some degree. Oscars tend to be the biggest and are eating machines, so its not necessairly aggression that is driving them.
Red terrors, jags, wolfs and Midas tend to be really aggressive. Electric yellow and blues tend to be less aggressive (theres a whole bunch that are less aggressive just cant think of them off the top of my head). Once we see your current pics we can probably tell you what not to choose ::grins::.

When you add the ne fish rearrange the tank. I have had some cichlids and if I did't rearange the tank the fish would be dead in the morning becasuse the others already had established their territory. I would also suggest to stick with cichlids that are from the same area and are the same size because even the slightest size difference could endanger the fish.
