Crawfish Tank
While in Maryland last year, I thought it might be interesting to keep crawfish in a fish tank. I filled the bottom with masonry sand, and various rocks from around the area. I left on the charcoal filter that I had when I kept freshwater wish. I fed them sinking fish pellets, and occasionally, earthworms.
I found them to be extremely territorial, and aggressive to other crawfish in the tank. Each crawfish would chose a spot in the tank, most of the time under a ledge of a rock, beneath a rock, etc. In the end, I had more fun keeping these crawfish, than any other freshwater fish that I had previously. It was interesting watching them move the sand with their claws creating better living areas, or to defend against other crawfish when eating. Every now and again, I would attempt to throw in some fish into the mix, but the second one of the fish were still, they were dinner to the crawfish. The only species I was able to keep in the tank, were oscars. The oscars tried their hand at eating the crawfish, but a few snips from the claws ended that.
Here are some close ups of the crawfish in the tank. I allowed algae to grow everywhere other than the front and side glass, to keep it looking natural, but not to block viewing.

I have a heavy aluminum crawfish tank. I use a water conditioner made by Zatarains as well as a filter packet made by Zatarains. I feed them lemons, garlic heads, potatos, onions and andouille sausage. I keep the water temp at a constant 220 F.

Re: Crawfish and oscars
I have a crawfish in my tank right now with a few feeder fish but i really want an oscar in there. I noticed that you said your oscars leave the crawfish alone now. is this still the case? and are they a good match?

I only had them in there for few months before breaking the tank down completely. But yes, they never bothered them. The Oscars left the crawfish alone, but the crawfish were always on the watch for an oscar swimming close to bottom. LOL
