Haha, I made this post a month ago.
But around 40 posts or so, I finally got the ability back. It just suddenly popped up out of the blue. I have no clue why. So I can't really help you fix the problem anymore, the thanks button is back and I've been using it!

One individual who is no longer here thanked another individual who is no longer here and that individual was apparently being accused of doing so just to give the other individual more rep points and so that individual had her thanks button taken away.
