I am thinking about ordering pink rabbits or chicks for my snakes. I read that they are superior to mice and rats. I was wondering if anyone has used them and noticed a healthier snake or even a better feed response. Also, where did you order? I know about www.rodentpro.com

Although I have never fed any of my snakes chicks ,I have read on several threads that you won't like the out come. The fecese will come out runny and foul smelling.

Foul smelling doesn't even to begin to describe the odorous abomination that is serpentine digested fowl. It provides a pungent aroma akin to a 20lb stinkbug, that had previously subsisted on rotten eggs ,prior to you hitting it with your truck carrying tommorows chicken batteries for the farmer's market.
Peace,
Alex

Go for anything other than fowl. It is called foul for a good reason!

There is a monastary out there somewhere, the name escapes me at the moment, but they consider unborn baby rabbits a delicacy (the only meat the are able to eat as they are vegitarians - doesn't make sense to me, but whatever). Anyway, if you are raisning the rabbits, it may be ok, the demand will be larger than the supply though. As far as chicks go, have you ever held a baby chick? All fluff and no substenance, not very nutritional looking. Also, chicks are bad about being infested with a parasite called coccidia. I don't know if they are something that affects snakes, but they play havoc on young mammals, to the point of death in untreated cases. Treatment is difficult too, since they burrow into the intestial walls. HTere isn't a 'wormer' that works on them, it takes long term sulfa drug use to erradicate. Sulfa drugs are dehydrating. So, no, I don't think chicks would be an appropriate food source. The risks far outweigh the benefits. But, if you can locate the neonate bunnies, I would like to know how your snakie does on a diet of them.

Coccidiosis will kill a reptile as well. As usual the prescribed drug is usually albon.
