Feeding?
I recently bought a baby sand boa and I'm feeding it live pinkies. I was wondering if its a better idea to feed snakes live or frozen/defrosted food. I've heard many different arguements/reasons for both sides, but I'm still undecisive and would appreciate any opinions regarding this topic. Thanks.

Oh, and I was also wondering if it's ok if I feed it in a brown paper bag...People have recommended that because if offers some seclusion, and I don't really want to watch it eat the mouse anyway.

I just fed my snake a defrosted pinky and it ate it without a problem. One of the things that I've heard is that once a snake eats live food it won't go to defrosted, but it worked for me!

That is a myth. It is sometimes difficult to get a snake that has grown up on live food to switch, but it isn't always a chore.

Yeah I agree with LD on this I just switched my baby Ball Python to F/T with no trouble at all. Some will some wont at first all depends on the snake.

I got over 20 snakes here, most were fed live food by their previous owners when I got them and all now eat frozen / thawed with no problem.

you can feed your baby sand boa live but once she gets up to feeding her hoppers I would definatly feed her pre killed or frozen thawed.
and boaman one good reason for feeding live is the vitamins that frozen thawed lack but it really doesnt become too much of an issue.

Perhaps I am just stupid in this matter, but is it not the same mouse that comes out of the freezer that went into the freezer? How could it be anything less or more?

I have fed both live and frozen. i pefer frozen due to the frozen process kills all parasites, cheaper for my needs for the amount of snakes that i keep, and i just leave the food item in the cage with the animals without incident of animals being attacked.which is a plus.
