Size of prey item
Hello all,
What I am wondering is.. is this mouse too small? Every time I pick one up I wonder, is that too small, but when I get it home, it appears to be ok.
Give me your thoughts on this.
What he is currently eating is a black mouse fuzzy. I want to get him on rat fuzzies but I am having a hard time finding them.

Looks to be about right. Are you feeding every 7 days?

Place an order with RodentPro. They're got rat fuzzies and my young boas this year thrived on 'em. As far as size of food items...I always tend to err on the small side. What you've got there looks about right.

If I had the freezer space to hold the min order of 1 bag (50 rat fuzzies) I would have an order placed today.

I know this is way out of left field, but watch those paper towels. There was a topic..... A year ago...?.... with a burm ingesting a towel accidentally while eating. I know it's rare, and not much af a chance it would happen, but it could. I really suggest plastic rubbermaid totes, the kind with the locking lids for feeding. BTW, size looks good, depending just how furry the mouse was. Try to get your hands on some rats though, like you mentioned. I think I am the sole RTB.neter that dislikes rodentpro.com I would go with bayou rodents

Thanks for the warning Dr.Oviparous.
When ever I feed him, he is in that rubbermade box, and I am watching his every move. I have found that paper towels make cleanup a lot eaiser, and I am always worried he might get a chill, you can see in the image there is a heat pad under the tote while he eats.

I always put newspaper in the bottom of the tote when feeding. Helps with cleanup, and newspaper is kinda stiff, so not likely to get all bunched up and accidentally swallowed.

newspaper sounds like a great idea, epecially in the case of those magic "imploding" rats..... EWWWW! lol, dont'cha hate it when that happens. Usually from overheating I believe. Have you ever wanted to say "OK girl, don't squeeze this one too hard, it doesn't look to stable if you know what I mean" J/K

As said before, I WANT to get on rats, but no place local carries them.
What I am most concerned about at the moment is if he is being underfed.
I just called another place today, they have.
