I have a burmese that i just got a week or so ago. Its time to feed and i can't find any jumbo rats or small rabbits in my area. I was told that i can feed her chickens, but my question is can she digest the leg bones without problems? I have been told she can and i also have been told to cut the legs off because she can not. Which is correct? She is over 9 feet long.

thanks

You could try multiple smaller rats till you can get some jumbos. Try Rodent Pro or go to the next reptile show and buy a bunch of frozen there.

Couldn't help you on the chicken thing, other than I have heard that chicken is a fatty food for a snake. Another option about rabbits is your local paper. I would say it's getting to be about the right time for all those people who bought little bunnies is realizing the live longer than just Easter Day. I all the time see rabbits in the paper here. You might not want to tell them what the rabbits are for though, lol.

There are numerous meat rabbit suppliers in Texas that will provide you with bulk frozen rabbits - no questions asked, do -not- feed live rabbits. Chickens are horrible to feed, in general they are a poor nutritional source, and they'll frequently give burms the runs and in general poultry will make their poo smell -horrible-. I won't even get into salmonella issues... but its another consideration when dealing with poultry. Guinea pigs are ok, but I've found they give my burms nasty gas... which if you've ever had gas, you probably don't want to subject your snakes to that bloated/painful feeling either. =)

You can get frozen rabbits from the size of a large mouse all the way up to 15 pounds or more, if you look around, which is more than adequate for any growing burm. =)

YUP like Ravnos says..ya really don't want to feed chicken for many reasons. Rodentpro does sell bunnies also and their not priced too bad either. You also could try your local meat market.. they usually have rabbit for sale too.

Your in TX and cant find rabbits or jumbo rats?
There are dozens of rodent breeders spread throughout the state,
where are you located, maybe someone can refer you to a nearby source.
