Where do you buy your rats? I prefer to buy frozen rats and have most recently been buying from Petco, but the rats are not of good size and almost appear as if they were dead before frozen. Or maybe thawed then re-frozen? Anyway, I don't want to buy from there anymore, but I don't know another place to buy them as rats are hard to come by, especially in Lincoln Park. Any advice?

Have you considered Rodentpro.com?
Edr lives in your area. If I remember correctly, that is who he uses. I use them and the quality and price are both there. They are a real pleasure to work with.

Actually I personally don't use rodentpro. I usually go out the Lee Watsons Swap and get them, Actually right now there seems to be a price war going on. Was there Sunday and got jumbo rats for $1.20 each, and rabbits for $1.00 a pound, Jumbo Mice for .40 cent each. Not sure how long this will last , but the regular prices are real good too. The guy at the swap I usually buy from is Midwest Reptiles (usually only brings feed though)
In a pinch I also Buy from my buddy Rich, he does huge orders with rodentpro for many of the CHS members. Depending on how big an order i get them from him for $3 per mongo sized rat.
So both of these sources I don't pay shipping.
Thewho, trust me it may sound far, but I can imagine what your paying for rats in Lincoln Park. Actually since your in Lincoln Park, you should attend a CHS meeting. Last Wednesday of the month at the Peggy Notebart Nature Museum on Cannon Drive and Fullerton.

I use CajunMice.com and have no problems with them. I find them to be more affordable than Rodentpro, although I have no complaints for quality with either company.
