I just bought myself a baby red tail and she is the cutest thing. Anyways the guy fed her yesterday and I have har in a 40 gal long aquarium ( big i know) I know I should wait a few days to let her settle. plan on feeding her on Friday. Should I feed her a small mouse? or a fuzzy? she is just a baby maybe the thickness of a pinky...the store said she ate a small mouse but figured a second opinon would be nice. Oh the hot is about 88-90 and the cool...about 80-84..still trying to figue how to cool that down. I have th hide on the cool side and the water right under the heat with a stick to climb. Her name si Ruby
Thanks guys

Put the water on the cool side, it will use that to cool off if it gets too warm.

Boa constrictors should never see a mouse in their lifetime. If it is just a baby, then a pink rat will be fine. Feed 1 prey item every 7 days that is equal to the size of the thickest part of the snake (girth rule).
Good luck

Also, she should have at least two hides, depending on the size of the cage. She should be able to decide how warm or cool she wants to be without sacrificing the ability to hide.

well, if u have trouble finding a place that sell rats, you can find several on the web. the best is rodentpro.com. i have never had a problem with anything ive bought from them. also ,before some one else asks , do u feed live or frozen/thawed? we highly recomend feeding prekilled prey to our snakes, as a live prey item could seriously injure or even kill a snake.other than that it sounds as if your doing the right thing for tank setup.

heh, Fyre, actually we highly recommend feeding frozen/thawed prey. Pre-killed prey is the next best thing as it won't bite or scratch your snake, but can still pass on parasites that would otherwise be killed during the freezing process.

Dead Rats Dont Bite.... that sounds like it would make a great movie
and it's the definite truth when it comes to feeding.
