Size bunny for burm
Burm caretakers: How heavy of a rabbit would you recommend for a 20lb male burm ( I may adjust that figure but gotta wait for the wife to get home), around eight feet? What is/was your feeding schedule like for your burm when it is/was around that size? ... This is a pet, not meant for breeding or anything like that, so no weird breeder feeding schedules, if that makes any sort of difference .
I'm not looking to make it do anything abnormal, like keep small, or grow big really fast. Just normal care, normal growth, etc.

Re: Size bunny for burm
thanks for response Sakara.
How long have you had snake, how heavy is snake, and how old? ... Oh, and how often do you feed her. My dozer is a male, but I don't think that should really matter much as far as feeding when related to size and age.

Re: Size bunny for burm
If the snake is the defined length and weight as you've described AB, I'd say - and I have zero experience, I just read a lot - a 2lb rabbit every 10-14 days?
I 'unno. But I'd like to, so this is so not a hijack. Lol.

Re: Size bunny for burm
when homer was that size he was being fed 2lb rabbits every 10 days, then bumped down feeding to every 14days when he hit 10

Re: Size bunny for burm
My female is 1 year 8 months old and 12 foot+ right now. She gets a 4-5 pound chicken or rabbit every 2-3 weeks.
When she was 8 foot she was taking a 2.5-3 pound rabbit every 2 weeks.

He was being underfed when we got him about a year and 3 months ago, which is why his size/age ratio was questionable. (I believe the guy who had him was giving med rats once a month "to control growth"). He had a 4 lb rabbit last week (thursday 6/25) which just seemed a bit much (he was previously eating 2 1/2 - 3 lb guinea pigs. He's shed, he's relieved himself, and he's active now, and ready to come out and explore once the wife gets home.... but I'm thinking 3 lb. will do him better for a while. Thanks everyone who has responded so far. People should still feel free to do so. It's a pain trying to get real specific advice, so the more the better.
Oh yeah, anybody got weights on these snakes in relation to their lengths?

Re: Size bunny for burm
My Girl is sitting in front of me right now, I am unsure of her weight at the moment but she was right around 35-40 pounds when she was in the 8 foot range. I can snap a picture of her if you want a decent idea how a healthy 12 footer looks since she is literally 2 feet away from me.

Re: Size bunny for burm
That'd be cool. I'll get one of mine as soon as wife gets home. 20lb sounds a little light to me, but doesn't look too skinny. He did when we got him. Not horrifically so, but not filled out.

Re: Size bunny for burm
Was your burmese also from Clark, boaterr? I know DannyBoy and I had issues with ours; I can't remember if you did as well.
Update for you, mine took his first F/T fuzzy rabbit a few days ago.
Sorry for the side-track, ABP.

He should bulk up in no time, one thing burms are good at is putting on weight.
Here you go

Re: Size bunny for burm
i know its not a burm, but my 7.5+ foot boa eats 2.5lb bunnies once every 3 weeks or so, she seems satisfied on that schedule. she doesnt start roaming her cage until at least 2.5, sometimes not until 4 weeks after she eats her bunny. but shes also pretty much done growing and almost 10 years old.

Re: Size bunny for burm
Anyhow, I slacked off on pics, but here is most recent (7/18/09). He ate a 3 lb bunny easily last night.
