PeTA's Snake food suggestion
Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance®Zoological Formulas™ Reptile Diet
mmmm I'm sure my picky BP's would take right to that in a second. My question is since PeTA supports feeding this...what's the difference? it uses meat so why not just feed F/T anyway? I can be absolutely sure my rats were killed in a humane manner or I can have random beef.

Re: PeTA's Snake food suggestion
It's funny every bleeding heart animal rights nutcase I've spoken to, or been accosted by, about my pet snakes, are just totally out of touch with reality--as in not even on the same quantum level, LOL...
The way they talk, (and your link is a perfect example) you would think the cattle/pigs/chicken in cat/dog food, etc. just peacfully transformed into edible, packaged protein in a blaze of soft happy music and care bear colors...
Having grown up in the eastern plains and visited an old school (i.e. guy with a sledgehammer) slaughterhouse for cattle, I can tell you any live rodent feeders die far kinder than most of those cattle...

Re: PeTA's Snake food suggestion
I doubt they take in the nutrition of the brain, liver and eyes of an animal. These seems like a recipe for runny stool and a sick snake, I am going to compare it to some of the mazuri nutrition charts and mammal prey charts I have.

Re: PeTA's Snake food suggestion
I tried the T-rex product about 11 years ago on some snakes and the ones that did actually eat them had light tan, stinky runny poo.
took about 3 feedings of rodents to get them back to normal.
and not surprisingly, only snake I tried that would eat them were Cal kings, oh and one Tx ratsnake

Re: PeTA's Snake food suggestion
So far the sausages offer the absolute minimum fat and protein requirements for a carnivorous reptile. Whole prey has at least 10% more than the minimum in both categories. I am sure there would be no way I could feed this to my animals since I allow them to gorge and fast, there simply would not be enough protein and fat for them to live on for weeks or months. Instead they would have to be fed regularly on a schedule with this type of meal.

They also don't seem to realize reptiles need whole, complete prey items...I imagine all the organ meats, stomach contents of the prey, and the calcium/minerals in the skeleton are vital as well...
