Success!!!!!
well i went to petco and got a smal, med, and large frozen rat. i thawed em out while i ate and then went to feed. i dangled the small rat for my female ball that has NEVER taken a dangled meal. as soon as i put it in the tank i got a feeding response. she was coiled up by her log and water dish. i made the rat kinda "crawl" across her long and water dish, and she got really ready and started shaking so i moved it toward her. i could tell that she was about to strike, and then all the sudden the rat fell out of the tongs. right as it fell she nailed it and coiled it up. so im super happy now that i know she will take a f/t.
secondly i took the med rat into the quarantine room. the second i walked in the ball i just rescued was going crazy. i slid open his lid and he actually started coming out of the cage after the rat. i didnt even get it all the way in the open top and he nailed it. poor guy hasnt had a good meal since he was born im sure. the previouse "owner" was feeding him a small mouse once a month. i had already fed him a rat hopper saturday, but i could tell he was still really hungry. im so impressed at his feeding reaction and response. out of all the snakes i have ever had he has the best response to food.
thirdly i tried the large rat for my BCI and he wasnt interested at all. he smelled it then moved away like 3 or 4 times. it's kind of concering me b/c its been almost 3 weeks since his last meal. he did eat a really BIG large rat last time so he may still be full. plus he has been soaking and i think he's about to shed if he stays on his normal schedule. just thought i'd let everyone know about the success with the ball that i was having problems with. sorry this was so long, and thanks for reading.

Re: Success!!!!!
I share your excitement! I remember when my snakes took their first f/t. Proud moment indeed. About the ball rescue coming out of the cage to get the rat, all I have to say is aren't you glad it's a ball and not a burm?
With your boa, have you tried leaving it in the cage on newspaper and covering the cage while turning the lights out? This is the only way my BCC will eat these days.

lol if it was a burm i would take a different approach while feeding, and have it in a better designed cage for it. i havent tried that way yet b/c when he's hungry he will take it right out of my hand. i may try it next week if he doesnt eat it while dangled. thanks for all the kind words and sharing my excitement.
