OK...I screwed up...I have found that it is less stressful to feed amazons and other arboreal snakes in the cage/on their perches...but sometimes when I open the cage all the way an amazon smelling rat will dart out onto the lip of the cage...So I have gotten into the habbit of cracking the lid open a bit and sliding the rodent in on tongs....to date this has been very successful and uneventful...till last night. My male red amazon shot upwards from the perch, missed the rat and locked his teeth into the screen top....and was stuck there....I tried to wiggle him free but only made him lock down harder....for fear of breaking his teeth....I decided to let him get loose hisself and started to just back off....that is when I noticed that during his struggle to get off the screen....he had managed to coil around with his tail and secure the rat for later when he could get to it....Like he was saying...OK this sucks but don't take the rat away, I still want it...and....about 5 minutes later he was free from the screen and still holding the rat in his coils...looked out to see if anyone saw that...I'm quite sure he blushed even....then he ate his rat.

ROFLMAO !!
Hopefully he didn't hurt any of his teeth during the whole fiasco at all ! This would have been a great thing to catch on a movie type shot even. Sure he'll recover his pride in no time also hehe

And you didn't grab your camera!?!?! That's too funny, you have to admire anyone or anything that makes the best out of a bad situation, even if it's embarrassing.

i hate missing all those kodak moments... i got in the habit of keeping my camera in my barn for my silly horses, but then of course my cats and snake would present the PERFECT photo opp. so i bring the camera in the house and then the horses act up. i can't win. jules, that snake of yours may be a little off-target, but he's sure got his priorities in order.
