I was feeding my female Peruvian today, she is 15 months old and eats a large Rodentpro rat. I went in the room to see how she was doing and had the whole thing down except the last part of the tail. She then spit it out. I'm not sure if my presence caused it or it seemed as though the tail was curled at the end and got caught in her air passage.

Should I treat this as a regular regurge and wait 10 days before feeding again?

She has ate this size rat before with no problem. She is 5' long and decent size girth, the rat was not larger than her girth.

Wait a few days anyway....This was definatly due to you walking in though....if a snake feels threatened at the time of swallowing, they spit it out so that they can either flee or defend themselves...kinda hard to do either with a head full of rat. LOL...Next time...cover the feed tote or cage or whatever and leave her alone for a couple of hours.

I agree with JS, I think you just surprised her. Some of my snakes could care less in a situation like that, swallowing their dinner and keeping it down no matter what I may be doing in the room. Others have been very, very shy and don't want any disturbance whatsoever...just depends on the animal. Good luck!
