I have a pair of rats that i breed to get some of the feed that is needed to feed my BCI. I feed my rats normal rat, hamster or rabbit food. I was wondering if any of you know if it is safe, because i heard that feeding rats dog biscuits can in some cases lead to poisoning the snake due to the die that is used to colour some dog biscuits. In my rat food there are bits of it that are coloured green, brown and red. I just wnted to know if these dies that are used are harmful to my snake. I breed my own rats ... I feed them parrot food and dog biscuits And everything is going fine.. i know somebody that always fed her rats dog biscuits. And fed the rats to the snake..And MAN that snake is fat..She told me feeding the reats dog biscuits is healthy for the rats ..so I do feed mine dog biscuits and everything seems fine With my rats and my snakes..
I think it's no problem

I read somewhere yesterday thay feeding your rats daily on IAMS or EUKANUBA is good for them and you just treat them with a serving of fresh veggies and premixed hamster/gerbil food a couple times a week.

I disagree with whoever wrote that hibbity....You would think that the higher end dogfood would be better but actually the cheaper dogfood is better if ya really feel a need to feed a rat dogfood. High end dogfood is higher in animal protein (real meat) where cheap dog food is mostly cereal...which is more digestable and better for rats. Keep em on a veggie diet. There are many brands of food available specifically for rats and mice that are not too expensive.

certainly. It is in most cases healthier than rats fed on dogfood.

Simple, dog food for dogs, rat food for rats
I think rats for snakes can have plenty of green veggies and fruits as well. Rats eat anything, and after all, you are what you eat. Plenty of veg in a rat = plenty of vitamins found in veg in your snake.

Yah...I dunno why I said "in most cases" In every case, food made specifically for rodents is a far better choice than any dog food. Do you feed your dogs rat food? probably not so why should they be expected to be interchangable?
