my bci is a little over a year old, close to 5 feet in length. she used to eat very well once a week always seemed hungry and eager. then she went through a period where she didn't eat for 3 weeks , then she ate. After that some weeks she will eat, some she won't. Well I fed her a large rat 2 weeks ago and she hasn't ate since. I know boas can go a long time without eating. but is it common for a snake her age to be having sporadic eating habits like this. I would think she is growing and she should be hungary a lot. I was just wanting to know if this problem is normal or should I have something to worry about.
oh yeah how often do yall change your snakes water out?
thanks

What are the conditions like when you feed? Frozen thawed, pre killed, live? In a seperate feeder box, in the cage? do you feed at night, during the day? do you usually try to feed duing the same time of the day? Are the rats different colors (one rat white one week, a black the next)? When you feed is there a lot of backround noise (causing vibrations)? do you feed when your snake is shedding?
I change out water every 3 days, when they've pooped in the water, or when they've soaked. What ever comes first. -Juggalo

I feed on the same day of the week every time, around late afternoon every time. Feeding her frozen thawed since I've had her (about 7 months). Feed her in a feedbox in my closet with the door shut, so it is dark and no commotion. I do not understand her not eating , she seems healthy. Sometimes the rats are different colors but this didn't bother her before

With your snakes size and the size of the prey your feeding it. It actually sounds like your snake may be ready to start feeding less often than once per week and is just doing that. try moving to a 10-14 day feeding schedule and see if that helps out in the snake not refusing feed.

Yah....once they get on the larger rats...every 2 weeks is plenty. There are factors such as shed cycle, breeding season, inactivty, etc that may make them go on little sporadic fasts too. 3-4 and even 8-10 week fasts are nothing to worry about. If she hasn't bred and goes several months without feeding then you should get a little concerned but even then, they usually snap out of it leaving you wondering what went on. I think right now she is telling you that it takes a little longer to digest these larger meals and she needs to take a nice poop at least after the third meal. soooo don't sweat it. This is what makes em such great pets....they don't poop or eat often.
