ARGHHH.. A few weeks ago a box of crickets was accidentally left int he car overnite.
[ wasn't me...was hubby.. guess who gets to drive thatcar now ?? LMAO] Dang things of course chewed a few holes in the box and about 900 criks got loose in the car UGH.

Yesterday I bought yet another box of criks and just placed the boc in a tote and covered it with the cover which has screen piece in the middle of it. Weeell today the dang things are ALL over the place where I house my reptiles ! ARGHHH They chewed through the box again.. and then chewed through the metal of the screen as well and are having a free for all it seems... WTF will hold these things so they don't chew their way through and get out. I really don';t want to be buying them by the dozens here....

You could always pit them in a steel box and if they get out of that something's really wrong with those crickets. Do you live by any nuclear power plants?lol

I got tha perfect idea for ya.. Buy a little beach colors with a locking lid.. The insulation in those things is very hard and sealed tightly.. plus its cheap..

Styrofoam isn't too good an idea there...
The crix will chew and eat it and can lead to a build up in the animal(s) that eat the crickets and can lead to impaction or other probs.

Lori, the medium sized plastic totes work well for this.
Jusy have hubby put a screen some where in the lid for ventilation and make sure they have PLENTY of food to munch on.
Oats, bran, fish flakes, whatever!
If they have food, they will spend less time trying to get out to look for it!

And don't forget some milk cartons torn up for them as well.

Hehehehehehehehahahahahahaha!!!!!!! Lori welcome to the world of cricket's!! It sure seem's like they are radioactive or something they eat everything! I keep mine in exactly what Eddie said a tote I just put in some paper towel roll's (cardboard) and they are content with that! But I do know the feeling of getting home and the thing's have chewed out of the package you have them in and they are all over the car, man that sux!!! Oh and let's not forget the stray cricket that has made a break for it while the top is open and escape's, that you find a week later crawling up the wall. You know they have to die immediatly right??? It's just the principle!! Hehehe!

I use a plastic "critter keeper" it's approx 2 gallon size and seems to do farily well for 50-75 crickets at a time. (One of those little plastic boxes sold for kids to keep various bugs and "critters" in.) They have not gotten out yet.... well except when you forget to close the little escpae hatch in the top I keep plenty of gut load in there and switch around with apples, pieces of dog food, and oatmeal as well.

I know what you mean Lori! Very frustrating! Quite a few escaped while I was pouring some in the tank. Now I constantly hear that extremely annoying chirping sound nite after nite after nite......chirp-chirp....chirp-chirp....chirp-chirp........... We use a rubbermaid container to house the crickets for our dragons. We put a strip of clear tape all around the inside wall of the container to prevent the crickets from climbing out. Apprently they can not get a good grip on the tape and just fall back down once they get to it (trick from KS BD Forum) I haven't seen any of them chew through the rubbermaid yet but there is the occasional escape artist..... Hope this helps
