Hi everyone,
I've got a half a dozen baby burms that shed about a week ago. I tried to feed them f/t rat pinks without success. I waited a couple of days, then tried live rat pinks. No luck! Waited a couple of more days, then tried f/t pinks dipped in chicken broth. Still no luck. Their temps and humidity are okay and they are housed separately in rubbermaid shoeboxes. I have handled them enough so that they are not biting me anymore. Do I need to scent transfer with a lizard, or just wait a while longer before trying again? Thanks for any help, Bryan

Maybe try a mouse instead? They could be holding out until they get offered what they want

Hi, somrtimes it takes 1 month+ for babies to take their first meals. Just be patient. Ive never had a baby take a f/t meal at first. They usually will for their second though. Give em about 1 week and try a live mouse hopper. Rat pinks dont move as much as mouse hoppers so if you use rat pinks, be sure to turn them on their backs so they squirm more. leave them for about 1/2 hour(do it at night when they are active) and if they dont take it, remove it and try at a later date. If the babies start to look thin, then other measures might need to be taken. I have 3 babies from my last clutch left, all males and none feeding on their own. They went for 2 months and finally I had to assist them. Anyway, if all else fails, try f/t day old chicks. They usually do the trick.
Good luck.
Kolleen
