What is the best way to feed a snake? i've been killing my snakes prey before i give it to him. usually 2 medium rats or 1 jumbo rat a week/week and a half. killing the prey is a pain but i don't want him to get injured if i put it in live. then again.... what if he were in the wild? there is no one to kill the prey there. is it worth taking the risk? i doubt it. i may try to freeze then thaw the rats but i don't know if he will still react the same... one thing i know i should stop: feeding him by hand. i'll be the headline of next weeks newspaper.

In the wild, snakes can ambush their prey. There are alot of snakes in the wild that are injured from the live prey too.
If your snake is eating prekilled rats, it should do fine with frozen/thawed. I feed f/t and have no problems with my snakes taking them. I like to feed frozen because I dont have to run to the petstore and buy rats every other week and it is way much cheaper too.

You have to remember that survival rates in the wild are not exactly 100%. And 100% is exactly the survival rate that you are looking to maintain, therefore you must do everything in your power to minimize the chances of death and/or injury from ANY possible cause. Feeding live is a possible cause, don't do it.

Not only are frozen rats cheaper, but freezing kills endo and ectoparasites. Try comparing prices of your present supplier to those at RodentPro.com. I bet you will be pleasantly surprised (I know I was).
Rodentpro.com
Trust me, it's well worth it. Cut my feeding costs considerably. I was able to afford more snakes after switching to RodentPro. Great customer service, too.
Enjoy!

The best way to feed your snake ????
DEAD!
Simple as that and you seem to have the reasons for it down
Also in the wild your snake would not be confined in a box/tote with a live rodent and could just slither on away if not hungry too.
