Just got our first shipment from rodentpro and I've got an idea to keep them fresher longer. An old trick to keep meat and such from getting freezer burn and going bad is to freeze the meat or fish or whatever in a bag full of water. The water will freeze around the meat and keep it fresher. Wonder if this would work the same with rodents? Anyone ever try this before?

that sounds messy, and it sounds like it will increase your workload,
if you have that big a surplus that you need to keep them fresher, then I think you may have ordered too many
I think after about 9 months, I wouldnt use them anymore anyway.

This may work also.. Before i moved here from Australia a few months ago, i had an expensive fish death in my aquarium. This fish meant a lot to me so i had it stuffed (literally). What i had to do to freeze it to keep its most natural texture/appearance was to wrap it generously with glad wrap,a layer of a kitchen towel and then heaevy glad wrapped again. Don't hold me on it though.

I've posted on this before.....but will say it again:
Buy a vacuum sealer! I order in bulk as well from RodentPro. When the rats arrive, I break everything up into 'feed bags'. I seal them up, date them and toss into the freezer (or you can just break up the larger bags into smaller ones). Just remember to use a paper towel around the rats with nails so they don't puncture the bag. Come that feed day, the bag goes straight to the warm water. The bags are reuseable, so you add a few inches to the top of the bag when sealing, wash after feeding (by hand or toss into dishwasher) and set aside for the next shipment. Vacuum sealing the rats will help them last anywhere between 1-2 years. It's also very helpful when we make those Costco runs and buy the big packs of meat and cheese! No more tossing of freezer burned meat and moldy cheese....sorry about sounding like a commercial, but it was a great investment. I highly recommend one.
