Wild Rabbits?

i have a weird question...ive gotten all mine to eat f/t. So instead of me always going down to my pet store and hoping they have the sizes i need at each feeding time im lookin at the total cost for ordering from rodentpro or hare-today. my larger rtb needs to be on small rabbits as she has a good appetite..and my burm could eat one as well or if anything fuzzy rabbits they call them...xl small rabbits. crush can eat the xl small rabbits too...but chance still needs to be on rats. My thinking is this....im asking so please nobody yell at me....everyone says and all reading tells you that f/t kills all the germs and parasites an animal might have. so its safe for them eat right?? ok my parents live outside of city limits and always have like 100 rabbits roaming in there yard and all....my dad kills them with a bb gun and all. if i get one of those rabbit traps....it just locks them in a cage when they go in for some food you put in it....and just use co2 to kill them humanly and freeze them until feeding time comes. Would this be a good idea?

thats an iffy one, i don't think freezing kills germs, just parasites. then there is the question of what has the rabbit been eating?? the nutrition of the snake's food's diet is pretty important. if it doesn't eat well in the wild, it wont do much good as food. I'd advise against it.

I have to agree with jjmetro... Wild animals carry too much stuff to harm my snakes to make it worth saving a buck for me.
I raise my own rats for just this reason.... I wasn't about to feed MY snakes those scrawny sickly rats at the pet stores! If my rats are healthy, then so are my snakes.... I wouldn't feed them a wild rat either, so I surely wouldn't feed them a wild rabbit. I'll raise my own rabbits when that time comes also.

Wild rabbits get worms in their throat in the spring when it gets warm enough and don't get rid of them until the first good freeze, but i would't feed my animals wild caught prey items anyway just in case.

There is also a disease in wild rabbits that they can pass on (at least to humans). You have to check their liver for spots. If it has spots it is unedible. As snakes need to eat the innards, it would be counter productive and messy to have to gut them, stuff the guts back in, freeze them, and then feed them (when the snake constricts them they are going to spill the rabbits gut contents again).

yeah i never knew that...and that would be why i asked you all before any attemps. It was a bad idea..sounded good originally...but not worth the risk of saving some dough...there just not worth it. i will be ordering from hare-today very shortly.

True. And pigs are like the most sickly animals people use as feeders too

He said his relatives had a problem with wild pigs so they trapped it and called him to come get it.
