hi, i'm new to the website. i just bought my first rtb 2 days ago, and i'm keeping handling to a minimum as i have with my past herps. i'm wondering how long i should wait to feed him? the store had just gotten him in the day i bought him, so they hadn't fed him yet, and i haven't found very much information on the acquiring of young boas. Welcome to Redtail!
Check out the caresheets section here. We have sheets on boas in general and handling also.
RTB caresheets
And you will see we recommend handling as often as you want to.

Welcome to Redtail! I agree with Eddie. Handle often. Since the store had just gotten them in, you obviously couldn't ask them. I'd say give the lil guy about a week to get used to his surroundings and get comfortable in his new home. Then feed him a F/K (fresh killed) or F/T (frozen/thawed) rat pinkie or fuzzy/hopper mouse. Then again, I should have asked, how old is he? The above is for a 2-3 month old.
If he's acclimatizing, he may not eat anyway. If you see him cruising the cage, that's usually a sign that he's hungry.
What other types of herps are in your collection?

thanks!
i'm not sure how old he is. i'm not even sure it's a he, and i'm not sure if it's even a BCI or a BCC. all they told me was it's a red tail, but i fell in love. i'm assuming it's a he because of the way the tail/spurs look, but it doesn't really matter to me, because i'm not planning on breeding. but he's about 18-20 inches long, if that helps.
as of yet, i have a 7 year old corn snake and a 3 year old ball python. and a rat named ghandi.

HI there;
WELCOME TO REDTAILBOA.NET!!!
As for the handling..just go ahead like they said and handle often to keep the snake "tame' On the feeding.. Pick a feeding day and start there is all. If the snake is "searching" prior to such day, then he doesn't like your day ya picked is all..lol.
if ya want some help ID'g the snake as for BCI/BCC. Just post a pic and people will try and help ya out with such then also. Seeing as ya got it from a pet store though..it is most likely a BCI. LATERS...
