I would, the problem with rodent pro and other online mouse companys is that there arent small enough orders available. The best one that I have found is www.themousefactory.com they have some smaller orders, so i might give them a try.

New Python Owner
I just bought a python from a local pet store. My cousin used to have one, thought it would make a good pet. My question is, I have been reading alot of these posts about live/dead feeding. Her first feeding day is tomoroow, should I start her off live pinkys and change over to dead once she eats mice. Dont know how hard it would be to change her from live to dead when needed. She is about a foot and a half in length, the last thing I want happening to her is causeing scaring or even infectious bites.
-Also I dont have the heart to put the rodent to it's death, do the pet stores sell dead snake food?

At a foot and a half try rats, pups maybe. Not sure about the girth of your ball. If you don't have the heart to put a mouse/rat down, have some one else do it for you or of course play with a mouse till it bites you then you will be happy to put it down. lol Take it by its tail and slam it on the floor. Believe me, once you see how mean, smelly, and how many rats there are around, trust me you will be happy to kill them off.

Very few petstore I've seen carry frozen feeders youur best bet is to order them online the problem even with live pinkies is they can carry parasites as well . if you can find frozen pinkies I would sudgest that.

yes please start your snake on F/T right off. porkchops n' cornbread is right. they still can give your snake parasites.

Yeah the feeding worked out, I fed it a large mouse. I took it out of the box it came then sealed it in a ziplock, and slammed it full force on my desk. The mouse died instantly, it beats suffication from the snake.
Thanks for your help.

Lol
Yeah I did'nt think I could do it. But after seeing how ugly the thing was, it made it easy to do. Plus ive seen my cousin feed his snakes live rabbit, and it looks painful. Seeing the snake dig it's fangs into it's neck constricting it. I thought it was alot less painless what I did, plus it makes it easier for the snake and less of a risk.

Ok, well I'm dragging this old thread back up again by Louise's Request (she wanted me to post Piper's story) Its a long one so I just did a picture sequence instead. Thanks to Louise and BW for all their help with Piper, even though we lost him in the end...
This is Piper
At the store where I got him:

When I got him home and removed liquid pus from his head:

A side shot of the entrance wound on top and bottom of his head. Stuck shed due to wound, swelling.

The hole in his jaw after chunky green pus removed from bottom jaw:

What came out of his jaw (it smelled worse than death, and was green...):

After treatment: (he got baytril shots and tube feeding, had a mass of solid infection removed from his head and baytril shots for an additional week)
The skin around both teeth wounds became necrotic. He later retained his entire shed and regurgitated tube feeding.
Piper died from an apparent rat bite to the head, eventually. First he wasted away to skin and bones from starvation and infection from the wound. What a way to go...

so much more to pipers story. mary being the good snake mom she is rushed piper to BWSmiths house at like 12am for help. being the great person BW is he worked on piper till 3am and had to get up at 5 for work. after work or during work he took piper to his vet, the vet had nothing to do cause BW did all the work on him that needed to be done. mary went back to BWs to pick piper up and BW taught her how to give him shots and how to tube feed. poor mary learned all this at one time and she continued to work at saving pipers life just to lose him to the rat bite that started the whole thing.

Well really he died from malnutrition more than anything, but I wont dispute that it was caused by the bite. Piper's story is much, much longer and I will post it with more pics on my site very soon. I just did the abreviated version here to get to the point of this thread. Larkin's story is somewhat happier, yes, but does not belong on the LivePile thread, seeing as his problems were not related to live rats (thankfully) but rather stupid stupid people.

Larkin was fed live, thankfully in his case he was not injured by a rat and now he's eating f/t and wont get the chance to eat live ever again. He had a burn/scrape on the top of his head, mites, several retained sheds, a minor RI and a major case of stomatitis - along with being slightly underweight and having an attitude... He wouldnt eat for me for several months, but has finally shed normally (one piece) and started eating like a mad man. Actually, his mouth is almost able to close even!
