Feeding F/T
We tried to Feed our Ball python yesturday , He has been fed live and I wanted to try Frozen and Thawed mice since I do not want him to get hurt. He did strike the mouse but after a little squeeze he lost intrest in it and did not eat it . SO now I am wondering should I just get him a little live one to eat or try a frozen thawed one again. Do you all have any tricks to get him to eat it . Any ideas would be apprieciated. thanks

Grab the prey item around the head and hold it for a few seconds. If you feel any coolness at all coming through then it isn't ready yet. The brain is the last to thaw since it is encased in the skull.

Another thing you can do is.... after the snake strikes the prey item wiggle it a little bit. This will usually get the snake to take it up in a coil even tighter.

Yep...all good info...only thing left is, and please don't take this wrong.....but GO AWAY. Once he constricts...LEAVE. Come back and check after a few hours or even over night.

*nods* Yup! We have a female here that will NOT eat if anyone is around. Also be sure it is VERY warm. Some prefer wet prey while others prefer dry. If it turns its nose up at the wet prey then take a hair dryer to it. It'll dry it out and warm it up at the same time.
Good luck with your next try (wait until next scheduled feeding day).

Go away is great advice. My BP will not eat and usually not even strike at prey if anyone is around. She is very shy.

also... it took me a while to get one of my ball pythons to eat a f/t. i finally got it to eat a prekilled mouse, and it took several weeks after that to get it to eat f/t.
