How you can help!!
On April 2, 2007 an earthquake measuring 8.1 struck 345km northwest of the Solomon Islands' capital of Honiara at 7:40AM local time. The earthquake generated a tsunami causing significant damage on the southern coasts of Gizo and Simbo Islands. As the quake occurred during the day, local people managed to mobilize quickly and proceed to high ground before the tsunami inundated their villages. While human casualties are relatively low, several coastal villages were completely obliterated. Most inhabitants sought high ground with nothing more than the clothing they were wearing, only to return to find their homes and property gone.
A good friend and supporter of CORAL, Lisa Choquette, formerly of Dive Makai Charters in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii is now owner and operator of Solomon Dive Adventures in Morovo Lagoon, Solomon Islands. She has been taking groups of divers to the Solomons since 1990 where she first fell in love with the country, the diving, and especially the people. Now she has asked us to try to help in a time of need.

Men basically wear shorts, tee shirts, tank tops; dress pants and shirt for church are prized. Slippers and sandals & sport shoes. Same with underwear.
Women 30's and older wear skirts and blouses and spaghetti tanks or dresses. Any and all underwear except the really ridiculous lingerie. Bikinis work; Slippers, sandals, sportshoes.
Younger women are now wearing long shorts–men's or women's. Older women often wear shorts UNDER their skirts. They do not wear long dress pants or mini skirts.
All kids clothes.
Sweat shirts, jackets, and sweaters are welcome. It can get chilly, and locals can get cold easily.
Towels, blankets, soap – think of all the things you'd need for camping.
What better time to do Spring cleaning and clean out your closets!
