My girlfriend has decided she wants to get an African Pygmie(sp) Hedgehog, but she is having trouble finding a breeder relatively close. We would prefer to find one within say no more than a day's drive from Washington, DC, closer if at all possible. Shipping on these things is ASTRONOMICAL, from what we have seen, 200+ just for shipping.
Thanx
Brian

Go to Kritter Korner and ask around. Quite a few people there keep hedgehogs, and they breed them occasionally. They will also know people who are hedgehog breeders. Best of luck, the African pygmys are cool animals.

Make sure to check your local and state regualtions on keeping these exotic animals. I knon in PA it is not legal to breed them and if I remember correctly there are some local regs that state you cannot even keep them.
So check out all of the regs pertaining to the animal you want to keep before getting the animal and becoming attached and then finding out you are not allowed to keep it.

Thanx for the good advice HK, but yeah, we checked, they are ok from everything I can find here in MD. My best friend has a female, so we are kinda hopin to get a male, and sometime down the road perhaps do a little breeding of them.

Hedgehog breeding? So nature does have it's own little S&M thing going on....
I can just see two hedgehogs talking in the locker room "oh yeah man, it was so good I nearly bled to death..."
