Look what I found!
I woke up this morning and lazed about the house for a while. Lazy Saturday morning stuff, you know. Went downstairs to take care of the garage critters (We don't park in the garage anymore. We just keep the critters that like cooler weather in there, the bunnies, the goats, the chins, like a makeshift barn). I usually do bunnies first, then goats, then chinchillas, but for some reason I did chinchillas first this morning.
Flash was on the bottom of the cage, which was weird. It's one of those big tall 6-footers and they like the top part the best. So I gave her some Cheerios and saw this weird little white thing dash around behind her. All of my chins have always had their babies very seasonally, between March and May, so I was a little bit thrown off.
Sure enough, Flash had given birth either late last night or early this morning to an absolutely PERFECT little baby! Biggest one we've ever had, too, 64 grams! Our last record was Scooty Puff Jr. at 61 grams.
We're calling him Rorschach!
Here are his parents, Flash and Marsellus Wallace:

She well knows that by enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. – John Quincy Adams (1821)

Re: Look what I found!
Very cool!! I'm pretty ignorant about Chinchillas, I didn't know they were born looking so nice and furry.
And LOL at Marsellus Wallace Great name. " What now? Let me tell you what now."

Re: Look what I found!
At first I was trying to figure out what it was, and then it dawned on me. Then I started to wonder how you found a baby Chinchilla wandering around. I'm not very bright sometimes.
It reminds of the time when I had guinea pigs, and I woke up and found an extra one in the cage!

Re: Look what I found!
Awww, he is adorable! The name Rorschach seems to fit him quite well, and I especially love the first picture of him. I used to have a male chinchilla when I was a little girl; they make such great pets.
That sounds like quite the group of pets you have there; would you mind if I asked what all different kinds of animals you have?
Thanks for sharing your pictures!

****First let me say - The darn thing is CUTE, I'd say that must of made yer heart melt but $200 wow they get like $50 to $60 bucks at the pet store in my area. I heard though because of the fur being so dense that they'd make lousy & possibly harmful snake feed, anybody know if this is true?

This is EXTREMELY true. It's the high lanolin content in their fur. These little critters are pretty much ALL fur.
Even economically they'd make bad snake food. Their average litter is 1.5, their gestation period is 111 days, and they typically only have babies once a year. Total opposite of bunnies and rats!

Well, we have all the snakes, (BCC, BCA, BCI, Ball pythons, BRBs, and JCPs), we have an African Grey, a lovebird, a cockatiel, an Australian Ringneck Parakeet, a black-capped caique, two little pygmy goats, 3 rabbits, apparently now 3 chinchillas, lol, and an eyeless rat. The in-laws are allergic to dogs and cats, so we pretty much have everyting but, lol!
