Re: Prarie Dog!!
Funny, I have some right down the street and they just had little babies. I wondered if anyone ever posted pics of them here. That is just the cutest thing (no feeding him to snakeys!).
How does a prairie dog become someone's pet? They are social animals. I wonder how they do by themselves.

Awww; she is adorable! I love Prairie Dogs. I wonder what all states they are legal in?
Thanks for sharing your pictures; good luck with baby-sitting the little girl!

Re: Prarie Dog!!
Cute little girl.
but I really think that such social creatures like prairie dogs should be left in the wild with their own kind, IMHO.

Most likely all wild animals should be kept in the wild. But they aren't. As a keeper of wild animals (you, me, and everyone else here), such a comment is something that I find to be both inflammatory and hypocritical. Mods can delete this post if they find it to be out of line.

Re: Prarie Dog!!
Perhaps once they have already been taken out of the wild it is not possible to reintroduce them. In that case hopefully they will bond to the other humans and animals in the home. If it were my home, I'd let them tunnel under the blankets with me.
There, how was that for being the site peacekeeper? (I just wear way too many hats around here!)

Re: Prarie Dog!!
She is pretty dang cute. But so are many other wild animals; skunks, badgers, squirrels etc. It makes me sad that it's legal to keep these animals as pets. Praire dogs especially are very social animals that burrow and dig tunnels in nature. I don't want to start any arguements, but IMO, I don't think these animals should be kept in captivity. Just because something is cute people often feel like they must have one, and that really frustrates me.

Aww. I want to cuddle with her. Every day I drive or walk by the prairie dogs near my house. They are so cute I can't stand it. The little babies all gather around their holes and scream. Sometimes the mother watches from the hole while the babies venture out. They're cool to watch. How can there be so many adorable creatures on earth? And not enough time to cuddle them all?

ReeeeOOOWWWWRRR....
Seriously, back off. You think you can just try to jump down peoples' throats and act all authoritative-like, "Mods delete this post."
My point was why keep such animals like a prairie dog that needs to live in a pack, in captivity. I kept it as short as that because I could go on a whole rant about it with which it would need to be discussed in debate thread. I'm not the only one that has the same thoughts. I had no intention to start anything, just state my thoughts. It's always somebody else who has to take it personally and jump the gun.
It was a general comment and opinion, so get off your high horse.

Actually, I feel similarly about snakes, and it is a constant source of conflict for me to see them being bred and sold so easily. I believe we have a debate thread where we debate whether wild animals should be kept in captivity. In the DEBATE section.
