Suggies
Well, not yet, but I'm looking to acquire a few suggies here soon, not really a rescue, but more so getting them from someone that doesn't want them anymore... They are white faced blondes and I am buying the baby, but there are also the parents... They are $300 for the breeding pair and I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in the breeding mom and dad... I'm gonna be picking up the baby hopefully soon, and if anyone wanted one or both the parents I could pick them up as well and ship them if needed... Just seeing what interest there would be so maybe mom and dad can get a good home too cause I got Ryan to agree to ONE... Not 3 >.>

Re: Suggies
XD Is it terrible that I actually had to google 'suggies' to find out what they were?
LOL. I'm used to calling 'em 'Gliders'. They're so cute though. :P You should have fun with the baby, have you kept them before? I'd take them if I had room and wasn't in Canadaland. Good luck finding a home for them!

Re: Suggies
They are cute! I love them... I've never kept a sugar glider, only cause my mom wouldn't let me XD and I've had a few friends that have/had them growing up and I know how to take care of them... i've also raised a baby squirrel that I found so I deff. know how much work those lil buggers are, hahaha... And how evil they can be >.> lol...
I miss my squirrel LOL He lives in Fla
But yea... I'm gonna make a bigger post... This dude that lived in TX moved to Vegas and has ALOT of herps that he's trying to sell... Some are VERY nice and he took good care of his animals, other then some bad cages for the snakes... They are healthy lil animals...

Re: Suggies
"suggies" can be a handful. They're nocturnal, but need attention, so be sure you're ready to spend your nights with them. I have a friend who kept them, and due to the lack of interaction they became quite intolerant of her. It wasn't her fault. They were rescues basically thrown on her, but as she works in the ER, sometimes her 8 hour days turned into 15 hour days, and staying up at night to play with them was not an option.
.
And I would not compare them at all to squirrels. I've kept squirrels before and these are very different (and by different I mean A LOT more attention needed).
.
PS -- I'm sure your snakes will love their scent...

I thought about getting one. Dont think I will after spending time with some. Cute but they are very dependable. Like mini-dogs.

Why are you insisting on fanning the flame?
.
What makes you think that the animals are issue-free? Nice looking animals do not mean that they are healthy. There's no possible way you could know that they are or are not sickly, especially due to the blurry photos (most of which seemed to be so because of the filth on their setups).
.
Inadequate caging and dirty conditions don't constitute for good care or husbandry last I checked.

Re: Suggies
at the time I had only seen a couple of pics. Not the pics of the cages and living situations. I had seen a couple pics of the retic, gliders and lizards. I'm not "fanning the flame" as u call it. I had been going off pics I had seen BEFORE the cage pics that I posted in the other thread that I made AFTER I had seen the OTHER pics.

Re: Suggies
There was no way for me to have known that, so I apologize if I were brash.
But, I do still think it's wise that you stay away from those animals.
.
Either way, you'll do what you'd like.

Re: Suggies
Its cheaper to find a friend who has one...or convince a friend to get one... lol
.
One of by best friends has chinchillas, so I just go over there and play with them when I want to, and I don't have to clean up the mess! lol, kind of like grandparents can do with their grand kids... As a matter of fact, I think I'll skip the whole parenting part and just adopt a grandchild instead....I am brilliant!!!!!

Re: Suggies
Sugar Gliders should have there own place in the forum. They are not mammals. Last I checked they were marsupials.

Re: Suggies
Um.... Yes, sugar gliders are mammals.
Kangaroos, koalas, and opossums are mammals too.
Mammal means it has mammary organs. It feeds it's babies with milk. ALL marsupials are mammals.
My roommate's friend had a sugar glider once that hated him... It would escape it's cage, "fly" across the room, and try to rip out his jugular every time he visited. o.O I've never met one that didn't bite me, either.
They're great for some people, I hope the ones you get like you!

Re: Suggies
I have a couple more things to add. Sugar gliders are very social and prefer to live in pairs. They also have very specialized dietary needs that should not be taken lightly. There are a couple of diets that you can premix and freeze but they still require fresh fruits and veggies daily as well as insects, pinky mice, and other protein sources. They need a large cage and frequent socialization to keep them bonded to you. If you get babies from a good private breeder the chances of having some friendly well socialized animals are much higher. A bonding pouch is a must! Frequent cleaning is a must. Yes males spray and their urine smells like rotting fruit. Yes they eliminate when they have to no matter where they are or who they are sitting on.
Getting sugar gliders should absolutely not be a spur of the moment decision and they should not be purchased just because they are cute. They require a lot of time and work.
The end
