RIP Reptile shop, hello fuzzies :(
So I was informed yesterday that the reptile specialty shop that I work at is now changing into a "Reptile and exotic mammal shop"...UGH...Anyway, Since I have never kept ANY exotic mammals, and am now basically the same as any other petshop employee who has never kept most of the animals that they are selling, I need to learn as much as I can about chinchillas, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, and other little fuzzy things so that I can give our customers accurate information. Can you guys give me any links to good exotic mammal forums? I dont want to rely on JUST internet caresheets, so I'd like to try and get in deep with some forum folks, because if they're anything like the people on here then they'll know a little something on the animals they keep. Thanks for the links in advance!
Aly

Remember a good snakie always says"if it's small and furry it's food". lmao j/k
You could try goin to places like sugarglider.com They had care sheets at one time and also had a questions area that you could post and get replies.

I have known Gail (Owner of Millermeade Farms) for years as she is always at the few swaps I go to. We are not close friend but we do know each other. I would say by the way she educates people and the way she cares for her pets I would ask her how to care for chinchilla, hedgehogs and sugar gliders. If I was to ever buy a chinchilla, hedgehog or a sugar glider Gail is the only person I would buy one from. I would contact Gail and ask her your question. Welcome To Millermeade Farm's Critter Connection, Sugar Gliders and Hedgehogs
I bet she knows more about these animal than anyone on this site. No disrespect to anyone here but this lady knows her stuff.
Take care
Tom

Re: RIP Reptile shop, hello fuzzies :(
I work at snakes on 34th street. I checked out that link Tom, and it looks like it has some good info! I'm not concerned with remembering stuff, I just feel like I'm being deceitful by giving people information on an animal I've never kept. I've kept pretty much any mainstream reptile out there, so I know my stuff when it comes to herps. Mammals, not so much. Thanks for the help guys!

The more you know and can share with others who need it, the more interesting and helpful a person you are! Builds Character!
I had a close encounter with an exotic mammal for the very first time over the weekend. In a separate post, of course...no hijacking!
