Re: my flying squirrels
I am actually looking into expanding my programs to include a few native mammals as well as herps. Flying Squirell is definately on my list that I am looking into and talking to DNR about permits. No solid plans yet, there is still a great deal to consider and many steps to take to get my facility ready for native mammals.

Re: my flying squirrels
they make such great pets. i use them at the elementary school to help teach adaptations the kids love them. just make sure you get young ones or they will be hard to tame down and bond to you. when i first got mine i carried them every where for the first few weeks to build a strong bond. its easier to use them in presentation when they trust you.

Re: my flying squirrels
hmmm...what is their range in the u.s.? would they be native to mississippi? now this may sound stupid but do those guys actually fly/glide or whatever or no? next where do you find those guys, i see sugar gliders all the time for sale but is there much difference?

Re: my flying squirrels
they live throughout the u.s. all the way up into canada. you could probly find one at night in your back yard if you have lots of trees. the flying squirrel forum i'm on just had there annual conference in Natchez, Mississippi. this past weekend. flyers glide they move 3ft for every foot they drop. i put mine on top of a door and they jump right back to me standing 6ft away. mine are kind of scared to try and jump farther to reach me. sometimes they would jump on unexpecting people that walk between me and them to make the jump shorter.
