Chinchillas
People who own them, post up! I have two at work and I'm SERIOUSLY considering bringing one home. Both are male, I've been told females will actually urinate on someone if they don't feel like being bothered
I think they're absolutely adorable the way they squeal and sigh when you scratch behind their ears just right. I know my cat would get along perfectly fine with it... she's been around rats long enough to not really care about them... although that cute little tail scares me. :X

Re: Chinchillas
I had a Chinchilla, but I had to leave it at my Dad's place when I moved out. The Landlord here's got all sorts of allergies, and the dust Chins use would pose a problem.
They're absolutely awesome little pets though, very little smell, if any! They're cute to watch, I haven't met a chin that bites yet, and I always loved letting Spike out to explore. They hop around like little bunnies, but you gotta watch 'em. They can jump REAL high for their size.. Spike figured out how to knock his food-dish out of the side of his cage one time and squeezed through the little hole. I woke up to him on the floor, jumping four feet to the top of the dresser to get back in his cage again when I sat up.
They're great though. They're VERY long-lived, too. Spike's about 16+ years old now, we've had him for a little over a decade, but the people we got him from had him for a good 4 years, plus however long the owners before that had him.

Re: Chinchillas
Yep, zero smell and awesome little pets! Both sexes do "the pee dance", though, but it's very VERY rarely aimed at people, they usually save that for other chinchillas. It's this weird little dance where they stand on their hind legs and "shoot a bullet of pee" (that's the only way to describe it, it's just a tiny amount, aimed at the other chin) at each other. It's REALLY funny, and never a big deal, lol.

I've been told that only females do this. Interesting. Thank you!

Re: Chinchillas
You totally won't regret it, they're such great pets!!
They go bonkers for Cheerios!! (Raisins and other sugary treats are bad because they're prone to diabetes) They hold Cheerios like little donuts, it's adorable!

There are these pretzel like treats that we give them at work... they know i'm the only one that sneaks a few to them and one will walk up to me, make his little noises, and RIP them out of my hands. The other will come up and go bonkers off the wall and jump around like he's doing tricks for the treats.
They are seriously the CUTEST animals.
