Why you don't want a raccoon.

Well, he's getting to "that age"..... There is a time in every animal's life(and many people's) where they cease being a baby, and begin (OUCH! NO CLIMBING!) ahem... Begin entering the stage of "the rest of their lives(NOT MY MOUSE! DROP IT!)".

Gneudals (LEAVE THE XBOX CORDS ALONE!) has begun entering this phaze, "The rest of his life".

So, I am here to chronicle this new development. Sometimes, he is cute and adorable and totally manageable.

(OUCH!!! NO CLIMBING YOU ROTTEN LITTLE-)

Other times, you want to bash them and feed them to the snakes. Like the time when they are being so cute and cuddly, sitting on the floor staring up at you, "I only want a cuddle mommy, please pick me up." and you say, "Ok honey, I'll cuddle you." and you pick him up and put him in your lap and pet his fuzzy little head....

And then he grabs your pigtails and starts cramming as much of them as he can into his mouth and makes a flying leap off your lap.... You know he's like 4 pounds now? It doesn't necessarily "hurt" but having a raccoon swinging off your pigtails isn't exactly heaven.

There are times, when he is totally adorable... like when he follows you up the stairs and outside to take the dog potty, and then he stands between your feet with his paws wrapped around your knee(yes, he's that tall now)(STOP TAKING MY MOUSE! DROP IT!) and looking so stunned by the world.... and then he digs his little claws in and climbs up your leg, up your backside, up your back, and clings to your neck in such a way that later, it looks like you've been wearing a barbed wire necklace all day.

(NOT THE CAMERA I AM UPLOADING VIDEO! LEAVE IT! LEAVE IT!!! Here. Take your cheese wrapper and go play. Thank you. Jesus.)

Or the times when (NO! NO CLIMBING ME! BAD!) .... Yeah.

So, this, is the thread for your children. This is where I will be posting new videos, detailing exactly why you don't want a (WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT?! BAD! DROP IT! NOT FOR RACCOONS!) raccoon. Enjoy.

Re: Why you don't want a raccoon.

Great post, this is why I would not want a free roaming raccoon. At a certain age they really need an out door pen to live in, kind of like large cats.

Re: Why you don't want a raccoon.

Very much so, Raze. Thankfully I'm outdoors enough to just bring the raccoon along with almost daily and he could get his full exercise requirements met.

Thinking about it though, I'm going to be renting my living quarters for the foreseeable. I think what I may end up doing is getting back in touch with the Wildlife Safari and see if they want another one of "my" creatures. If they don't I'll just keep him, but I'd rather he be doing some kind of good in this world via educational outreach programs or something, rather than just sitting in my house wreaking havoc.

Not that I mind his havoc-wreaking. It gives me the sufficient motivation to purge myself of all the detritus entropy has been cursing me with lately.

Who knows. It'll still be quite awhile before he's sufficiently trained to even consider anything of the sort.

Re: Why you don't want a raccoon.

HA!

Ok, so I'm sitting here eating goldfish crackers. Gneudals decided he might want one. So I sat down next to my chair, with him on my chair, and gave him one. He pawed and pawed and pawed at it, but couldn't quite figure it out. So I showed him that I was eating them. he still didn't get it. So, I picked up the one he was playing with, and bit off it's tails. His eyes got huge and he grabbed my cheeks and stuffed his head in my mouth to retrieve the goldfish. XD

I let him have it, though he still didn't eat it, he just played with the two peices of cracker. XD

Anyhoo. I'll try to get another vid if he'll do it again. But here's another, different vid for y'all.

I was considering a raccoon, tamandua or genet instead of a cat, then after researching them and realizing they are terrible free roaming pets, Rachel and I adopted a cat

Re: Why you don't want a raccoon.

I find it funny, that I can tolerate and appreciate the antics of a raccoon, ferret, skunk, opossum, etc.... but I just don't like cats.

I won't say they're droll, because that's just not quite right, but they're just... ehhh. Not my type of animal I suppose. I've never really "clicked" with a cat. Up until the ones mentioned in another thread that I just rescued.

Thank you Raze, for giving me a chance to use my nifty new firefox extension that lets me highlight a word and do a search on it without opening a new tab.

An anteater? Weirdo. I just want a Fennec Fox. But that has to wait till the kiddo is older.

Spix I am a sucker for when a tamandua stands on it's hind legs in a defensive posture and stretches it's arms and claws out. Cutest thing I have ever seen.

The raccoon is having one of his cute moments. He's sitting on my lap playing with my braids and running his soft little hands along my arms while I type.

Any bets how long it takes before he- OUCH! Nevermind.
